George Toriello sent this researched material January 3, 2020, on John R. Gallitano’s
military service:

John R. Gallitano’s name was not listed on the Original Wall Unit or on the
1946 High School Yearbook Dedication Page, but is on the Plaque at City Hall in Hackensack.

There is a Dominick K. Gallitano, who is listed on the Original Wall Unit and may be related, but I have no way of knowing at this time.  Take note though the 1940 Federal Census does show an older brother Dominick Gallitano born in 1913, with no middle initial “K”, as John R. Gallitano’s brother living at the same address who served in the Navy during World War II and died on November 28, 2000.

John R. Gallitano was born February 1, 1922 and the 1940 Census shows he was living on 33 East Broadway Hackensack, New Jersey.   He enlisted in the Army on October 2, 1942 and was a Private serving with the 804th unit, Tank Destroyer Battalion.

On August 25, 1944 while in Italy John R. Gallitano was Killed in Action for which he received the Purple Heart.  John R. Gallitano's body was repatriated to the USA, but we do not know the date.  John R. Gallitano has been buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Hackensack, New Jersey for a very
long time.

Let us never forget the soldiers sacrifice.
